Social System - Definition in the Study of Sociology
Definition: A social system is an interdependent set of cultural and structural elements that can be thought of as a unit. The concept of a social system embodies one of the most important sociological principles: that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Examples: If we have two sticks of wood and joint them together to form a Christian cross, no amount of understanding of the sticks themselves can fully account for our perception of the cross as a particular arrangement of sticks in relation to each other. It is the arrangement of the parts that makes the whole what it is, not merely the characteristics of the parts themselves.

Genetically And Genetically Modified Organisms - 998 Words
GMOââ¬â¢s, or genetically modified organisms, were first brought to my attention in the ninth grade. I did not know that anything such as GMOââ¬â¢s had existed before that, but in my ninth grade biology class we had to watch Food, Inc. and take a health class. I remember being so upset by the poor animal conditions and the lack of labels on foods with genetic modifications. To play my own part in the issue, I started to eat more organic foods and looked for labels that were non-GMO. I also became a vegetarian to keep myself from eating poorly treated animals that were kept in very bad conditions before being slaughtered. Even now, I am extremely conscious of what I eat, and constantly trying to make sure that I avoid genetic modifications. This semester, I plan to research the rise of GMOââ¬â¢s in the American culture, the side effects of this issue, and the positive and negative impacts of having GMOââ¬â¢s in our food. This topic justifies a semester of sustained research because I not only am very passionate about what I am eating, but I, as well as many other Americans, that are daily impacted by this issue should be able to contribute to the ongoing controversy and conversation about the issue in the United States. Firstly, the rise of GMOââ¬â¢s in the American culture is an issue that once presented to me; I have always had interest in. Revenues from January 2010 to January 2011 were about 16% that is an increase from the previous years. This was mainly because of the recovery in the economy. A companyââ¬â¢s economic health is critical because the products it sells are not primary products and therefore people prefer buying food than spending money to acquire a computer. This explains the reasons to why there was a decline in revenue for the year 2009, which was about 13. % drop in comparison to the previous years. 2010 has reported an increase and this is due to a change in the strategies involved in the business. The revenue stream of the company has changed due to the solution and services that Emirates Computers has put in place. The service revenue has shown a tremendous increase over the years. There has been a gradual appreciation from 14. 3% of revenue in January to about 18. 7%of revenue in January 2011. There has been a profitable growth of 25% in 2010 and a growth of about 5% in the year 2009. The percentage of revenue for the past three year has been due to cost of goods and services, which has shown a relative growth. Expenses like selling and administrative expenses and other expenses have been constant for over three years. There was an increase on intangible assets in addition to other costs. This is because of an increase on intangible assets from the Perot systems in 2010. The increase in facility action costs and severance was because of closure of some facilities that manufacturers used in addition to using contract manufactures to provide cheaper services. The company has shown increase in values because of its stability in percentage revenues because the company has good management, which understands the business, and controls their costs. The company is well informed, they understand every detail that may challenge it operation, and therefore they never encounter surprises that may negatively influence them. The company has registered an excellent net income in the year 2011 which showed an increase of over 80% from the years before. Return on assets is 2. 5 % and profit margin is 1. 6%, which come because of the increase in net income. Additionally the growth in the company has been because of higher revenues and a good cost control. The change in the companyââ¬â¢s way of operation has led to the increase in net income. The services of operation of this company have increased as compared to the cost of manufacturing the product. The acquisition of the Perot systems led to the decrease in net income to 42. 2 % in 2010. Health wise the company has shown progress and therefore Emirates Computers has plans to keep expanding its services to a higher level, which will eventually help the company (Peterson Fabozzi, 2012). There has been an increase on the current assets as compared to previous year from 72% to 75% in the year 2011. The company has recognized all highly liquid investments such as credit cards from banks with a three month original maturities. These because there was increase in cash provided by operations while a decrease in cash in investing activities. The decrease in cash in investing activities is mainly because of lack of material they are important for acquisitions in 2011 as compared to 2010. Generally, the company has portrayed a good fiscal year and their good health. It indicates an improvement in the ability to generate profits and income. The company has shown efficiency and effectiveness in because all the three Profitability ratios that involve profit margin, return on assets and return on equity. The company has a qualified auditor who analyses the financial statement of accounts of the company. Although at one point, the auditor gave an unqualified opinion concerning its financial statements. This is evident when analyzing the property plant equipment account, which is not very heavy in the balance sheet. The only representation is only 5. 1% assets own by Emirates Computers. Another aspect that the company has shown strength in is its Liquidity. The company current assets increased while its current liabilities and the current ratio and quick ration showed an increase from 1. 2% and 1. 22% in 2010 to 1. 49% and 1. 42%. Current liabilities on a dollar remained stable. Nevertheless, the increase in total assets, led to the decrease in current liabilities to 5. 8 %. All changes made Emirates Computers to be liquid and this gave it a boost and an advantage thus indicating good health. The companyââ¬â¢s equity of stakeholders increased to about 2 billion dollars (Fridson Alvarez, 2011). This is because of the increase as are suit of earnings retained. In the year 2010 ââ¬â 2011 return on equity (ROE) rose from 28. 8% to 39. 3% in 2011 while net income increased greater the stakeholders equity. Working with Animation and Imagination Essay Example For Students
Working with Animation and Imagination Essay For my art project the main theme, idea and focus I want to explore is Animation and imaginary fantasy. Being heavily interested in it, I want to explore more concepts of animation, fantasy and any possibilities of what I can do within animation and fantasy. This area of art is something Iââ¬â¢m mainly focused on because it matters to me not just because itââ¬â¢s for a school gallery but because it means something to me in life and I will always cherish it. I want to explore animation characters but also the scenery for example fantasy skies or anything fantasy in general. We will write a custom essay on Working with Animation and Imagination specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Iââ¬â¢ve always had an interest in this type of art. The issue of animation and fantasy characters is that animation could be easy to draw or just thinking about it but if you want to add in a lot more detail it could be more than original animation characters where as fantasy is very detailed in every way which might be a lot more harder but one issue I will explore is the amount of detail that is appropriate for the work. Anime drawing can range from simple outline drawing of characters to the highly detailed and expressive work in some fantasy art. How detailed I go will depend on the type of art materials I trial, art forms I explore and final display requirements, I am happy to try new things and experiences, to see what goes with what and which type of art or materials I should be using. Inspiration for this focus came from when I was younger, Iââ¬â¢ve just always been into animation and fantasy because I grew up watching anime shows and just their movement and how everything works and it has just become an important part of my life and who I am today. I also drew a few sketches for my Potential Solutions in year 11 Studio Arts and the process of that were draw, scan and Photoshop/edit. I didnââ¬â¢t print it out because my teacher just wanted me to get everything done and put up on a website called ââ¬ËWeebly. ââ¬â¢ It is hard to pick any particular artist because their were too many I have liked over the year and you just couldnââ¬â¢t remember them all but a couple of artists that do stand out are Masashi Kishimoto who is the creator of an anime called ââ¬ËNarutoââ¬â¢ and Akira Toriyama who is the creator of ââ¬ËDragon Ball. ââ¬â¢ They were the main and most popular creators of anime. Last year in Studio Arts I explored different materials and the processes to complete Anime artwork. I actually tried painting and it wasnââ¬â¢t perfect but Iââ¬â¢m also not so bad itââ¬â¢s in between and I would try it again to get the hang of it and for more experience in painting because Iââ¬â¢ve always loved people and artists who could paint thatââ¬â¢s why I always wished I could but I like trying new things so weââ¬â¢ll see how it goes. I intend to explore the possibilities of combining drawing, scanning, photo shopping, editing then printing it out and maybe draw over it and creating something different and more original. I will explore a wide range of materials and techniques to find what suits my chosen subject best. I might also trial printing photoshopped work onto a range of papers ââ¬â photo paper; ordinary drawing paper and onto fabric paper and use digital transfer printing processes to get my work onto different papers and maybe even canvas. I want to develop my skills and understanding of these skills and techniques to proceed further. My chosen art forms are drawing, scanning, photo shop/edit and printing. I will combine all of those art forms to explore different ways to present my work. For instance I like the idea of making small books with just pictures of my own, a story without any authoring just pictures that says and means everything. .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c , .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .postImageUrl , .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c , .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:hover , .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:visited , .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:active { border:0!important; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:active , .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u62e8c73907c9aa2052a1ecb1939d888c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: History Of Computer Animation EssayIf I have time I would like to make gifs of moving animation using my book drawings or create drawing or paintings to present on the gallery walls. I want to keep the option to think of something else while Iââ¬â¢m at it. For instance line and shape are very important in anime style drawing, which usually have quite clearly defined outlines and stylized (simplified) shapes. Tone texture and color are elements that are important to create the expressive moods you see in fantasy art, which is sometimes more detailed and layered than straight character anime, shading and texture is used more that in the flatter style of some character dra wings. The elements that will be most important to express my ideas will be line, tone, color, and texture because the elements will be explored by using an original and different kind of style, in order to create fantasy looking animations I will have to go through lots of experimenting to get it to the way I want it to be even if it takes long Iââ¬â¢m willing to do it and complete it so I feel like Iââ¬â¢ve actually accomplished something Iââ¬â¢m proud of doing. The way I want people to look at my art project is that itââ¬â¢s a story even if thereââ¬â¢s no authoring or writing of any type. Itââ¬â¢s still a story even if itââ¬â¢s illustrated because a drawing or painting or any type of art could actually mean so much even if it were a piece of simple art. It could be mean the world to someone or an artists that worked so hard to accomplish something to get it into a gallery but when people see it they could they walk by like it doesnââ¬â¢t mean a thing or doesnââ¬â¢t look so good, but Iââ¬â¢m just here to say and want people to feel appreciated about an artwork doesnââ¬â¢t always need a caption or a writing you can just tell from the way the artwork looks and it should give people a kind of feeling.

First up is Keenan, who is hoping to land his first job as a marketing assistant.Download this resume in ms wordKeenan Jones1212 University Place, Apt. 3FMilwaukee, WI 67676(111) 222-3333Keenan.S.Jones@universityemail.eduTech-Savvy, Energetic College Student Seeking a Growth Role in MarketingSUMMARYMotivated, high-achieving honors student with strong written and verbal communication skillsAdept at working as part of a creative team to accomplish goalsWell-versed in current social media platforms and trendsEDUCATIONWestern Wisconsin State UniversityBA, MarketingAnticipated graduation: May 2018Cumulative GPA: 3.87RELATED COURSEWORKGoing Viral: 21st Century Marketing (Western Wisconsin State Marketing Department), Fall 2017Develop sample marketing campaigns as part of a teamDiscuss and evaluate best practices and real-world examples of social marketing strategiesPublicity Basics (Western Wisconsin State Marketing Department), Spring 2017Analyze historical and current trends in methods of publicityReview core concepts of public relationsDevelop marketing and publicity plans based on real-world examplesWriting for Social Media (Western Wisconsin State English Department), Fall 2016Review standard proofreading and copyeditingDevelop writing strategies to maximize messaging and brand awareness in various social media formatsMARKETING WORK EXPERIENCEHealthFirst Industries, Milwaukee, WISummer Marketing InternSummer 2017Provided administrative support to a 10-person Marketing teamParticipated in campaign and brainstorming meetingsMonitored HealthFirstââ¬â¢s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts and interacted with consumersKEY SKILLSSocial media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp)Adobe Creative SuiteMicrosoft Office SuiteMeeting time-sensitive deadlinesWriting creative, cogent, targeted text for marketing purposesLeading team members to deliver projects in a timely mannerKeenanââ¬â¢s resume is very targeted and focused on his marketing-specific skills and experience. He makes his intent very clear- a position in marketing- and builds the rest of his narrative around that fact. Hiring managers understand that someone coming right out of school is likely to have a ton of work experience, especially in the field. So to show the reader what he does have, Keenan emphasizes the practical skills he has (social media), as well as the skills heââ¬â¢s picked up as both a student (the Related Coursework section) and an intern (the Marketing Work Experience section). Keenan doesnââ¬â¢t need to include every marketing class heââ¬â¢s taken as a student, but picks the ones where he gained a lot of practical, hands-on knowledge that may relate to an entry-level job in marketing.Next, letââ¬â¢s look at Mireille, who is prepping a resume for a campus job fair.Download this resume in ms wordMireille Hopkins1056 Barnes Street, Apt. 2Boston, MA 23232555-666-7777MHopkins@emaildomain.eduAward-winning financial whiz with expertise in auditing and reportingWORK EXPERIENCEFinance InternPrinceton Weitz LLCSeptember 2017 ââ¬â presentProcess month-end financial reports as part of the Auditing teamAssist with audits of external customersReconcile balance sheetsPost journal entriesPerform general office support (including meeting setup and taking/distributing meeting minutes)Program AssistantGrant College Accounting and Finance DepartmentSummer 2016 Summer 2017Answered phones and directed visitors to the collegeââ¬â¢s Finance and Accounting officesCollated course packets for professorsManaged summer orientation programs for incoming Finance and Accounting studentsVOLUNTEER EXPERIENCEMath TutorGrant College Academic Help CenterOctober 2014 ââ¬â presentAssist fellow students with math homework and skill developmentSimplify complex mathematical concepts for ease of learningSKILLS SUMMARYComplex financial auditingSOX Compliance expertise and compliance with legal guidelines and best practicesAccurate financial accountingDetailed and accurate reportingLearning and using software for reporting and complianceCreating presentationsMicrosoft Office expertiseEDUCATION EXTRACURRICULARSGrant College, Wellesley, MABA, Accounting/BA, ManagementExpected graduation: December 2017Treasurer, Grant College Student GovernmentAugust 2016 ââ¬â May 2017Co-Captain, Grant Gophers womenââ¬â¢s basketball teamSeptember 2013 ââ¬â May 2017AWARDS HONORSDeanââ¬â¢s List, 8 consecutive semestersHonors Scholar program (anticipated, pending completion of honors thesis and graduation)Chairmanââ¬â¢s Award in Finance and Accounting, 2016Mireille wants to use her campusââ¬â¢s job fair to help line up her first job out of college. And to do that, she knows she needs to stand out from a crowd of other people (like her fellow classmates) to get attention from the financial firms attending the fair. Mireille has some work experience as an intern in her field, so she leads with that after an eye-catching headline (award-winning!). She doesnââ¬â¢t include odd jobs that she may have had in high school and college, but does include jobs that have a bearing on her current career goals (working as an intern, and working as part of her schoolââ¬â¢s own Accounting and Finance department). Because the career fair is happening on campus, she doesnââ¬â¢t really need to emphasize her school- the reader will already know that she goes to Grant College, and Mireilleââ¬â¢s resume instead emphasizes the points she wants them to remember most.Remember that at a job fair you only have a few minutes to present yourself to recruiters. So while you canââ¬â¢t really tailor your resume to each potential job opening/company, you can make it as specific as possible to your industry and emphasize the personal points you want to hit. The best way to make your brief chat with recruiters memorable is to hand them your resume up front, then point out the highlights on the page as you mention them in your conversation. And last but not least, we have Karen, who is seeking a job as an administrative assistant as her first job out of school.Download this resume in ms wordKaren Thompson 35 Springfield Street, Apt. 7G Las Vegas, NV (777) 444-5555 KTThompson@emaildomain.eduOBJECTIVEHard-working, recent college graduate with office and internship experience looking for a position that leverages strong organizational and communication skills into a growth role.SKILLSProficient in Microsoft Office (pa rticularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)Maintaining calendars and meeting schedulesOrganizing staff and public eventsSpeaking multiple languages (fluent in English and Spanish, partially fluent in French)Graphic designCreating presentationsDemonstrating a personable, enthusiastic attitudeEDUCATIONMarburg College, Sacramento, CAB.A., Comparative Literature, 20173.8 GPA (4.0 scale)Minored in History and Music TheorySpanish Club Secretary (3 years)Swim team member and student treasurer (2 years)EXPERIENCEThe Anderson Galleryà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à San Francisco, CA Receptionist (part-time)à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 10/2016 ââ¬â presentAnswer phones and greet guests for one of San Franciscoââ¬â¢s top art galleriesProvide administrative support to the curators and an administrative staff of fourCoordinate curator/artist meetingsMaintain the order and cleanliness of public gallery areasOrder refreshments and supplies for openings and other public gallery eventsDeMarque Creativeà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à San Francisco, CA Administrative Internà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 6/2016 ââ¬â 8/2016Provided administrative support for the six-person Graphic Design departmentFacilitated meetings and coordinated follow-up materials for attendeesCoordinated meetings and calendarsScanned and digitized archival content for newly implemented digital filing systemAs a literature major (with additional work in history and music), Karen is not necessarily seeking a job thatââ¬â¢s related to her major. And thatââ¬â¢s totally okay! Sometimes youââ¬â¢ve got to pay bills while you figure out your longer-term career goals. And to that end, Karen wants to take the good skills and experience she does have- particularly as an intern and receptionist- to show that she has the baseline skills to be a good admin. To do this, she uses a clear objective, and a highlight reel of the skills she wants to emphasize most. Her experience bullet points show the w ork she has done already in this field, even though she has only worked as an intern and part-time receptionist so far.If youââ¬â¢re a college student or a recent grad crafting your first real-deal resume, the most important thing to remember is that you do have skills and experience, even if you havenââ¬â¢t worked full-time in the field. Take inventory of your classes, your internships, your volunteering, everything. Anything that shows leadership, include it. Anything that taught you more about the field you want to be in, include it. Anything that shows escalating responsibility, include it. Even hobbies can have a place in your resume, if theyââ¬â¢re related to the job you want. Good luck!
